{Tutorial Tuesday} Scrappy Owl Ornaments

I have a lot of fabric...
And when you have a lot of fabric, you have a lot of scraps!
This is a fantastic tutorial to use some of those scraps that you've been saving

Scrappy Owl Ornament Supplies
Scissors
Felt
Fabric Scraps
Thread
Buttons
Straight Pins
Needle
Sewing Machine
Glue Gun (forgot it in the picture)
Fiberfill (forgot in the picture too. It was late)

Step One: Print out the Scrappy Owl Template

Step Two: Pin the Owl body to the fabric. And cut 2 owl bodies
Step Three: Place the 2 bodies right sides together and sew around the body, leaving an opening on the top (in between the ears), to turn and stuff.  Turn the owl body right side out
Step Four: The rest of the pieces from the template (eyes, beak, feathers, crown, wings, feet) onto the felt, and cut each piece out
Step Five:  Do a Blanket Stitch on the edge of each wing and each foot.

Step Six: Lay the middle eye piece on top of the large eye and stitch a button onto each eye
Step Seven: Take your needle and thread and stitch each eye onto the owl body
Step Eight: Next, stitch the nose on the owl.  Then make 3 stitches (pictured) in the middle of the nose
Step Nine: Stitch on the "feather" pieces below each eye on the owl body.
NOTE: Stitching each piece onto the owl body takes the longest time
Step Ten: After you have the eyes, nose, and "feathers" stitched onto the body, stuff the body with the Fiberfill

Step Eleven: Place the "crown" piece in between the two ears, lining the rounded edge of the "crown" with the opening that you had left before.  Stitch the "crown" and opening closed at the same time

Step Twelve: Using thread or ribbon, sew a hanger on the top of the owl

And you have your Scrappy Owl Ornament!
I know it's quite a few steps, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask! And I'll answer them right away!
Please send me pictures of your owls!

  1. So cute! I think a big one as a stuffed animal would be adorable too. Love the stitching accents!
